Paris Bomb Plot Foiled: Three Minors Arrested

Homemade Bomb Neutralized Near the Champs-Élysées

In the early hours of Saturday, March 28th, around 3:25 AM, Parisian law enforcement intercepted an individual about to detonate a homemade explosive device in front of the Bank of America building, located in the prestigious 8th arrondissement of Paris, just a few streets from the Champs-Élysées. The building was closed at the time of the incident, and no employees were injured.

The device consisted of two bottles of flammable liquid taped together with 650 grams of explosive powder, along with a rudimentary ignition system. According to authorities, the suspect was attempting to light the device with a lighter when police intervened.

Three Minor Suspects in Custody

The first individual arrested at the scene is a 17-year-old, born in Senegal and residing in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), already known to the police. During questioning, he stated that he had been recruited via the Snapchat application to carry out this operation in exchange for €600.

A second suspect, spotted across the street filming the scene, fled. He was arrested on Sunday, March 29th, along with a third individual. All three suspects are under the age of 18, confirmed the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT).

Counter-Terrorism Investigation and the Shadow of Iran

The PNAT has opened a judicial investigation for "attempted destruction by dangerous means in connection with a terrorist enterprise", as well as for the manufacture, possession, and transport of incendiary or explosive devices for terrorist purposes. The DGSI (Directorate General for Internal Security) and the Parisian judicial police are handling the investigation.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez praised the police intervention, which allowed them to "thwart a violent action of a terrorist nature." A source close to the case told AFP that the foiled attack appeared to be "the realization of the Iranian threat against American and Israeli interests throughout Europe."

Investigators have noted similarities with recent incidents in the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Norway, where improvised devices targeted sites linked to the United States. According to several analyses, Iran allegedly used European organized crime networks to orchestrate these proxy attacks, in the context of the American-Israeli conflict against Tehran launched in February 2026.

France on Maximum Alert

This incident comes as the Vigipirate plan remains at its highest level, "attack emergency," throughout the national territory since the beginning of 2026. This "winter-spring 2026" posture provides for increased security around public and institutional buildings.

On March 11th, Iran officially declared American and Israeli economic and banking interests as legitimate targets, leading to a tightening of security measures in Western financial institutions worldwide. For France, which hosts the largest number of subsidiaries of American banks in Europe, the protection of these interests is now a major security issue.
