Air France Reworks Summer 2026 Network in Response to Middle East Tensions

A Summer Schedule Under High Geopolitical Pressure

Air France presented its summer 2026 schedule on March 26, a strategic overhaul of its network dictated by geopolitical upheavals in the Middle East. With nearly 170 destinations in 73 countries, the French airline is maintaining the scope of its global reach, but profoundly reorganizing its geography.

Since the Israeli-American strikes against Iran in late February 2026, airlines have been avoiding Iranian airspace and part of the Persian Gulf. For Air France, this means longer detour routes, increased fuel consumption, and sharply higher operating costs on routes to Asia and Oceania.

Las Vegas, New Star of the Transatlantic Network

A centerpiece of the summer schedule, Air France will inaugurate a direct Paris-CDG – Las Vegas service on April 15, 2026, operated three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday) with an Airbus A350-900. The Nevada city becomes the airline's 19th American destination and its 26th in North America.

This transatlantic reinforcement is coupled with a second daily flight to New York-Newark starting in June 2026. With its partner Delta Air Lines, Air France will offer up to eleven daily flights between Paris-CDG and the New York area. Long-haul capacity will increase overall by 2% in available seat kilometers compared to summer 2025.

Increased Focus on Asia-Pacific

Asia is the other major focus of this season. Air France is adding extra frequencies to Bangkok, Singapore, Bangalore, Tokyo, and Osaka, while deploying larger aircraft on the Delhi and Mumbai routes. This ramp-up responds to sustained demand, even as detours imposed by airspace restrictions lengthen flight times by sometimes more than an hour.

At the same time, the airline is extending the suspension of its flights to Tel Aviv, Beirut, Dubai, and Riyadh — the first two destinations remaining closed at least until April 4, 2026, the other two until March 31.

Jet Fuel Costs Weigh on Fares

The economic context is clouding the outlook for travelers. According to France Info, the surge in jet fuel prices caused by the escalation in the Middle East is already resulting in fare increases of 15 to 30%. The price of a barrel of jet fuel has jumped by more than 13% since the beginning of the conflict in February, and no airline seems able to absorb this additional cost without passing it on.

On the consumer side, French household confidence fell in March 2026, with the INSEE indicator moving away from its long-term average of 100 points. Inflationary fears are increasing sharply, fueled by rising energy prices.

Reorganization of the Parisian Hub

On short and medium-haul routes, Air France will operate up to 630 daily flights to more than 90 destinations. The airline is continuing to consolidate its operations at Paris-CDG, with up to twelve daily rotations to Toulouse and Nice, and ten to Marseille. Its subsidiary Transavia will operate 230 routes to 109 destinations from Paris-Orly, reinforcing the complementarity between the two brands.

Air France is also focusing on premium services: the new La Première suite will be extended to flights to Abidjan and San Francisco, while high-speed Wi-Fi will cover approximately 40% of the fleet by the end of 2026.
